Thanksgiving Meals

By: Olivia Quiñones, Giuliana Sagese, and Milla Duckfield

‘Tis the season! As the end of the year is rapidly approaching, there’s much to see and do to ensure a wonderful holiday season! Here is a list of our top ten Thanksgiving foods to kick things off:

10. To start we have our tasty pumpkin pie! This festive tradition is not only popular but readily available! Or better yet- homemake it yourself with the following ingredients: 1 (15-ounce) can pumpkin purée, 1 (14-ounce) can sweetened condensed milk, 2 large eggs, 1 tablespoon pumpkin pie spice, 2 blind baked 9-inch pie shells, or 1 unbaked 9-inch deep dish pie shell. Happy baking!

9. One Italian-American Thanksgiving tradition since the 20th century includes a big tray of Lasagna! Made with layers of pasta sauce, lasagna noodles, ricotta cheese, meat sauce, a final layer of sauce, noodles, mozzarella, parmesan cheese, and of course- love!

8. One core side dish is sweet potatoes! A sweet potato casserole with marshmallows on top is an American favorite on the Thanksgiving table! It pairs well with a meat dish such as chicken, pork, and turkey as well!

7. A classic Thanksgiving day delight, mash potatoes are one of the most well liked foods on this yummy holiday! Around 250 million pounds of potatoes are consumed on Thanksgiving each year. Prepare them homemade by boiling, cooking, preparing the milk, and seasoning your potatoes to serve to your hungry guests!

6. One of my personal favorite Thanksgiving foods is honey-glazed ham! It’s a popular entrée for the holidays, and a great choice for families who want to cook this simpler meal instead of a traditional turkey!

5. Cranberry sauce could be used in everything when it comes to Thanksgiving meals. If you feel as if your turkey is too dry, cranberry sauce could fix that! Cranberry sauce is also used in many famous deserts on Thanksgiving like pecan, apple, and pumpkin pie. It even goes with foods as simple as yogurt and muffins. Cranberry sauce isn’t for everyone, but I’m sure that if you tried it with another dish, you would love it!

4. The best side dish that goes well with turkey is stuffing. Stuffing is also another Thanksgiving dish that is very simple to make. It consists of dried bread crumbs, onions, celery, and other herbs. Then you add butter and a broth just to pull it all together. Now you just have made the best side dish for your turkey!

3. If you enjoy apple picking, then this famous dessert may be for you! Apple pie is a simple and easy dessert to make. All you need is about 3 apples, cinnamon, sugar, and a pie crust. When it’s done baking, it is a perfect dish and it goes well with any cookies.

2. One of the best side dishes on Thanksgiving is homemade macaroni and cheese. You could make this dish any way you like. You can use any pasta and any cheese. I personally think mac & cheese is better with lots of melted cheese. It could not get any better than that!

1. Turkey is the most iconic Thanksgiving dish. This meal choice began back in the 1850’s and it has become popular ever since. Turkey can easily be the main meal to any side dish. Stuffing and gravy will always be the two main sides that go perfectly with turkey!

We hope you enjoyed our top 10 Thanksgiving dishes! Make sure you try at least one of these delicious dishes. We also hope you had a happy thanksgiving and be sure to show your loved ones that you are thankful for them!
