Things to do in Franklin Square when it’s COLD!!

By: Natalie Osorio

February is here and although spring begins next month, the cold weather is still prominent in Franklin Square. No need to fear!! The clipper has compiled a list of the best things to do in our town while it's very BRRR outside!!

  1. Slots-A-Lot Raceway:

Are you looking for a fun activity where the hours fly quicker than ever? Slots-A-Lot Raceway is the perfect place to spend a Friday evening with friends and family! Slots-A-Lot features three 150+ foot tracks, and the only mini drag strip of Long Island! Be sure to give them a call and schedule a time to race your mini car!

  1. Spend some time at the Library:

Do you need a quiet space, or interested in having some fun at a low cost? If so, the library is the perfect place for you!! The Franklin Square Public Library hosts several events throughout the winter to keep the community engaged. For example, you can attend a crochet club on Saturdays, join one of the various book clubs, and learn a skill with their seasonal classes!! If you are a junior, you can even check out the library’s SAT/ACT preparation materials. If none of this interests you, then you can always sit and enjoy a book!

  1. Challenge Escape Rooms:

Escape rooms are always super fun! Who doesn’t love the excitement of finding clues to escape out of the rooms? These escape rooms are especially exciting, as you and your friends/family will have one hour in your selected theme room. You should try and escape the room using only the materials inside! Complete the puzzles and find hidden clues in order to succeed. Challenge Escape rooms has 11 current room themes, over 500,000 attempts, and two convenient locations! After the escape room, you can even go grab a treat with your friends!

  1. Visit a Museum!!

Our public library has museum passes for you and your family to enjoy! Whether you love learning about astronomy, art, history, etc. there is a museum relatively nearby that can fulfill all of your needs! For example, you could take one of your younger siblings to the Long Island Science Center! Moreover, the Museum of Modern Art is a great place to spend your day FOR FREE!! The Cradle of Aviation museum is a classic for all ages! No matter what your needs are, you can check out the library for any activities!!
