Junior Prom Fashion

By Farah Sadick and Natalia Jamiolkowski

Sequined. Bright. Short. Satin. Something different. Girls these days aren’t choosing their prom dresses with one particular style or color, they want to be different. With prom season beginning, H. Frank Carey has always had beautiful and unique dresses throughout the years! Here are some of the trends that the junior girls are following for prom 2023.

This year, we found that many of the junior girls are going for the short dress and sparkly look. Through the hfcjrprom24 Instagram, some of the stores we found that most girls are shopping at are Windsor, Lucy in the Sky, Hello Molly, and Jovanni. As of right now only most of the junior girls posted their dresses on Instagram to claim them. The Instagram account helps to prevent the junior girls of H. Frank Carey from buying the same dresses. Can you imagine showing up to prom with the same dress as someone else? What a nightmare!

This prom season, there is a go big or go home feeling as it’s the Class of 2024’s first big event out of the pandemic. Girls are planning to show up in the latest blinged sequin dresses, statement back, short, tight fitted dresses. From the Instagram page, it seems like sparkle is in this season! All the dresses featured on the page have some hint of sparkle with them. An anonymous 11th grade girl mentioned, “I debated on a lot of dresses between going casual and going sparkly, since the venue is so close.” Another anonymous 11th grade girl said, “I didn’t want to miss out on this prom experience, so I wanted to go a little out this time.” Another trend the girls are following for the prom season is a statement back. From corset designs, to backless styles, everyone is looking for that head turning dress. This year the guys are leaving boring suits behind and dressing it up with vibrant color ties. However, we know that the girls will outdo them with their extravagant dresses.

Most girls stated it’s so hard to find the perfect outfit, meanwhile the boys have it so easy. This formal event can easily turn into an all-day affair for the girls. Not only do the girls have to buy a dress, but they also have to decide on hair, makeup, and nails. Meanwhile, the boys can just wake up from a nap, take a quick shower, throw on a tuxedo, and fix their hair, easily looking nice. Unlike the girls who will take hours perfecting their hair, makeup, and nails all for one special night.

Don’t worry boys we didn’t forget all about you! Although Prom seems like a fashion show just for the girls, for the boys it’s a night out to spend time with their friends. Usually picking the perfect tuxedo is easier than picking a dress. An anonymous junior boy stated that “Picking a tuxedo for prom won’t be too hard”. For formal prom most boys plan on wearing a black or navy tuxedo with a white shirt underneath and a colored tie or bow tie. Just like how girls have jewelry as their accessory, boys’ accessories are their classy watches. From Apple Watches to Movado watches, it’s a competition on who has the coolest watch.

Personally, we cannot wait to see everyone dressed up on April 27th with all the latest fashion trends. Prom is an exciting time for everyone and not only do we hope to see them dressed nice, but also see the grade enjoying themselves, getting along and having fun together.
