Attention all seventh graders! Have you been feeling lost since coming to Carey? Have you ever wished there were a guide on how to be successful in high school? Well look no further, as we have compiled a list of our best tips to be successful!
1. Get to class on time: we know how difficult it can be to get to an 8am class, but trust us, you won’t want to miss it.
2. Take detailed notes: now, we’re not saying to write everything down but make sure you get the main idea across to help you when you’re studying. Don’t get caught up in trying to write down every detail, sometimes it’s better to just listen and try to process what the teacher is saying, rather than copying notes down that you don’t understand. Also, figure out which note taking tactics work best for you. What works best for you might not work for others!
3. Learn how to study: studying is hard, learning what study habits work for you can make all the difference! Maybe you prefer to study on your own, maybe you need to listen to music, everyone is different and that is totally okay!
4. Advocate for yourself: teachers aren’t mind readers, if you’re struggling with a topic, talk to them, don’t be afraid to reach out!
5. Stay organized: there’s nothing worse than lugging around a folder filled with tests from the beginning of the year, so do yourself a favor and separate them at home. Get a folder for each subject to leave at home and put all your tests from the year in them. Now you’ll have everything in one place when it comes time for midterms and finals!
6. Walk on the right side of the hallways and right side of the stairs: it sounds like a small tip, but I promise it goes a long way. Just like driving on the road, this school is packed and there is always traffic! Please do us all a favor and walk on the right side of the hallways and stairs to prevent traffic jams as much as possible!
7. Get active now!: don’t wait until your senior year to cram in a bunch of clubs. Get active now in after school activities, so you have time to find out what you like and don’t like outside of school. Clubs aren’t just extracurriculars to get into colleges, they help you express yourselves and help to develop a sense of identity!
