After several years of uncertainty and turmoil, the H. Frank Carey Music Department is ready to bring back music to Carey! Mrs. LoRusso is back and ready to lead the band to a successful and fun year. The marching band season is underway and you should be sure to check them out at Newsday Marching Band Festival on October 19th. In addition to their halftime performances and pep band music at home games, they will also be marching at the Homecoming Parade alongside the Color Guard and Pirettes. Senior High band (Mrs. LoRusso), chorus (Mr. Moreno), and orchestra (Mrs. DiGaudio) will be preforming as normally in the Winter and Spring Concerts this upcoming school year. In addition, these groups hope to return to NYSMMA majors after several years of absence. Jazz band (Mr. Cassara) and chamber orchestra (Mrs. DiGaudio) will also be running this year. The Senior High Musical will be announcing their selection for their 2023 performance soon and this will showcase the hard work of cast members, pit orchestra, and stage crew. Last year they put on a stunning production of Legally Blonde. This year, Vaughn Sheehan (saxophone and bassoon) and Kate Marcino (trumpet) were selected to All State Symphony Band based on their perfect 2022 Level 6 NYSMMA scores, a massive accomplishment. These two students, as well as Christopher Stacchini (trumpet) and Mr. Cassara (trombone), are starting up a brass quartet this year to do gigs at local venues. All-County selections are to be announced in the upcoming months. District Band is returning this year, with an opportunity for music students within the Sewanhaka Central High School District to audition. After three years of COVID-19 limitations, the Tri-M Honor Society (Mrs. DiGaudio) is ready to fully return. There are plans for performances at the Halloween Fair, a Dad’s Club Meeting, local elementary schools, a Board of Education meeting and the usual holiday performance. Keep your eyes on the lookout for opportunities to support your school’s music department through Tri-M fundraisers and trips. In January, there will be a fundraising concert with teacher performances and in March they will be participating in the Harry Chapin Practice-a-Thon to raise one penny for each minute practiced by a member of the organization.
