On April 11th, the H. Frank Carey Science Research symposium took place! This was an extremely exciting event for all of the science research students that have been diligently working on their research projects throughout the year. The event began at 3pm sharp, and the library was transformed into an environment full of research binders, laboratory notebooks, and students dressed in professional attire.
Firstly, the students presented to three assigned science teachers about their projects. This took about thirty minutes, and served as a great way to receive valuable feedback and make adjustments for the future out-of-school competitions. Each teacher was given guidelines for how they should grade each project, and these were used to determine the final award winners. The library was buzzing with the teachers asking intriguing questions and the students happily showing the hard work they had put into their projects. There were several project categories including those in physics, biomedical sciences, ecology, behavioral sciences, and more!
Next, the students took a small break before parents, aunts, uncles, grandparents, friends, community members, and more were allowed to enter the library to view the projects! The library was packed with family and friends learning intriguing information about projects from their loved one, or their classmates! They were impressed by solutions & experiments relating to the world’s most persistent problems!
Lastly, the moment everyone had been waiting for arrived! The Science Research awards were announced! There were three winners (1st, 2nd, and 3rd place), and many projects tied for this position! This included winners from the Junior High and Senior High sections of this class. Friends and family stayed for this part of the ceremony and took pictures as their children were awarded with well-deserved medals to show the amazing work they had done!
Overall, this year’s science research fair was a huge success! It was an incredible & long anticipated experience to acknowledge the hard work and dedication of several students and their teachers! We can’t wait to see everyone again for next year!
