Seahawks' Defense Shows off as Carey Blanks Mepham in Rainy Homecoming Game

By: Thomas Scheidling

The Seahawks hosted the Mepham Pirates on homecoming day, at Marc Mantone Field, after the homecoming parade was canceled, wearing their gray jerseys. The game would start off with a kickoff return for a touchdown by William Toliver, who scored two touchdowns in their last game. On their first offensive drive, the pirates would be forced to punt. On the Seahawks' next drive, T.J. Wakely would score a rushing touchdown on the first play of the drive, extending the score to 13-0. On their next drive, the Pirates would punt, but force a fumble to get the ball back, only to end their drive off of a sack from Justin DiPietro. Nothing would happen on Carey’s next drive as they would be forced to punt as well. On the Pirates' next drive, Matthew Smith would get a sack and they would once again be scoreless, forced to punt at the end of the first quarter. Then, on the Seahawks’ first drive of the quarter, Michael Vederosa would score a rushing touchdown to make the score 19-0. On their next drive, the Pirates would not be able to score as they would be forced to punt yet again. Then, with the Pirates having the ball on the 1, the Seahawks would force a safety to make the score 21-0 to end the half. The Pirates would start with the ball in the second half but would go 3 and out. The Seahawks would be forced to punt, but the punt would land at the 1-yard line, which would help them get the ball back after forcing the Pirates to punt again. The Seahawks would not be able to capitalize on the field position, as they would have to punt again, forcing yet another punt. Then, Ben Rose would rush into the end zone for a touchdown to make the score 28-0 Seahawks at the end of the 3rd quarter. On the Pirates’ next drive, they would go for it on the 4th down, but be stopped yet again by the Seahawks’ defense. The Seahawks would have to punt on their last drive. The Pirates would run the clock out to end the game, as the Carey Seahawks shut out the Mepham Pirates on homecoming to boost their record to 6-1. Next week, Carey is hosting Manhasset, so make sure you come and support the Seahawks!
