October Artist of the Month: Elena Moryl

By: Jamie Moncy

The October artist of the month is Elena Moryl, a junior at HFC, who is extraordinarily

talented at rendering realistic pieces. During her time at HFC, she has taken studio art, drawing, and painting, and she is currently in AP drawing. Elena truly finds art more than a hobby but a passion. She says “Art has always been a comfort that I can turn to whenever I’m stressed. I can start drawing and quickly forget about anything that is stressing me out. Art brings me into a state of focus and concentration that I don’t feel with any other activities.”

Elena's art journey began ever since she was little, and it was her favorite class she would go to in elementary school. In addition, she would spend her Saturdays practicing her passion for the arts all throughout her childhood. Her inspiration for the arts is from Monet and CH Hendry for their approach to art in depicting landscape and realism.

Elena, with her already impressive artistic achievements, also has a small business on Instagram called Elena’s Easel (visit @elenas_easel). Elena’s Easel demonstrates her work in fine detail on landscapes. Another achievement was a piece of candy which was entirely done with colored pencil, which, in fact, is Elena’s favorite medium to work with. That piece was displayed last year for its outstanding depiction of candy and for its hyperrealism.

Elena says the most rewarding aspect of completing pieces such as the landscapes or the candy piece is seeing the art at the end. In Elena's words, “My favorite part of the art process is seeing the art at the end, it’s so rewarding to see all of my hard work amount to something. It encourages me to keep going and working harder every day.” This process of art comes with patience, skill, concentration, and most of all, talent, which is truly remarkable. Elena has dedicated and worked on the pieces for a month or longer, demonstrating her dedication to art and it’s truly astounding.
