Homecoming 2023

By: Natalie Osorio

Homecoming is the time of year that everyone awaits. Countless parents and recent alumni return home and greet people that impacted their high school experience. This year, due to inclement weather, the homecoming parade was canceled along with the halftime show.. Despite this, the day was filled with fun as the Carey Dad’s club held their famous Pancake Breakfast.

The annual Carey Dad’s Club Homecoming morning breakfast took hard work and dedication from countless parents who volunteered their time to be there. Several moms arrived as early as 6AM to begin preparing the meals for those who chose to come. The breakfast began at 8AM, and various sports teams attended after their scheduled practices. We saw the cafeteria flooded with faces of new students, recent alumni, parents, and members of the community. Although the sky outside was gray, the light from the cafeteria kept the magic of homecoming alive.

We saw in this cafeteria the homecoming court begin to arrive. This year, the Freshmen’s court included Amelia Kalamaras and Antonio Negron. The sophomore court included Gregory Hoffman and Isabella Ciulla. The Junior court consisted of Christian Todaro and Amalia Flaherty, and the Senior court included Joseph Binu and Francesca Giordano, Lauren Peers and Nico Mazzela, and our Homecoming King and Queen were Thomas Wakely and Mia Vintimilla!! Although we could not watch our Homecoming king and queen travel through Franklin Square, they were still honored in the auditorium with a brief assembly. Everyone was delighted to see the court dressed up and excited.

Later in the day, the Homecoming football game took place in the pouring rain! The Carey Seahawks competed against Mepham High School’s football team. The Seahawks finished with a score of 28-0!!
