H. Frank Carey 2022- 2023 Homecoming Parade

By: Stefania Spallino

This year's homecoming theme was non-other than cartoons that shaped our childhood. The freshman created a beautiful float made of mysteries as they debuted their Mystery Machine from Scooby-Doo. The sophomores built their float with some extra help from Phineas, Ferb, and the gang, featuring Dr. Doofinshmertz’s evil lair. The Juniors rocked their way through the stone age with The Flinstones and their bottomed-out car. Seniors took in an extra couple of summer days and swam down to Bikini Bottom with their models of Patrick Starr, Squidward, and Spongebob Square Pants’ houses from Spongebob Square Pants! The parade kicked off at 11 am to the sound of the H. Frank Carey Marching Band, under the direction of Mrs. Katie Lorusso. In front of them was the HFC Color Guard, under the direction of Ms. Victoria DiGaudio, proudly holding their school colors. Behind them, the HFC Pirettes, directed by Ms. Briana Scognamiglio, danced their way through the route to ¨kings and queens” played occasionally by the marching band. Accompanying the halftime performers on the journey of school spirit are clubs like S.A.G.A. as well as class floats, class board members, and the H. Frank Carey Varsity Cheerleaders, Warriors Cheer groups, the Carey Dads Club, THE Carey Seahawk, and other community members. Towards the tail end of the parade were the honored guests, the Homecoming Kings and Queens of grades 9-11, and the Senior Court with the potential Homecoming King and Queen. The crowning ceremony was held immediately after the parade finished its route as it reached the Goldenrod Ave campus gate. Behind a tedious and intense selection process, our Senior High Homecoming King and Queen were finally crowned. After much anticipation, senior Kaan O'Shea was crowned as King while Student Body President Isabel Santana took the well-deserved crown as Queen. The Carey family is so grateful for everyone who comes out to participate in the parade and all the supporters who make the Homecoming Parade a success each year!
