Day Eleven

Feastive Film Delights: The Ultimate Holiday Movie Snack Guide

By: Monica Villalobos

As the days dwindle down and we get ever so close to Christmas, we find ourselves having more Christmas movie nights as we eagerly await the coming holiday. It’s no secret that holiday movies hold a special place in our hearts, inducing nostalgia in many and producing iconic scenes and characters we know and love! This holiday season, the clipper is bringing you the perfect snack guide for all your favorite holiday movies.

1. The Polar Express

There are few scenes as iconic as the hot chocolate scene in polar express. Appearing towards the beginning of the film, the movie sets up this warm environment with all the kids just getting settled and getting excited for their journey to see Santa. All of a sudden, the train converts into a mini cafe as dozens of chefs pass though serving up warm, rich, and certainly decadent hot chocolate. Few things are as desirable as a cup of that hot chocolate.

2. Home alone

Simply a classic Christmas movie that must be accompanied with a classic dessert. Cozy up and watch Kevin run around his house with a nice big ice cream sundae. Though it may not be as fancy as the one he eats in the plaza hotel during the second movie, Kevin’s guide to a perfect homemade sundae is basically anything you can find in the cabinet. So scoop up some of your favorite ice cream and top it off with whatever you like (Kevin likes marshmallows best)!

3. ELF

Who hasn’t seen, or at least heard, of will ferrell's iconic role of buddy the elf. At this point, his character has become a symbol of the holiday and the movie quickly became a modern classic. Now most of us have seen buddy’s “spaghetti” topped with maple syrup, chocolate sauce, and dozens of their candies. Now to each their own, but spaghetti with maple syrup is probably not my first choice of snack. Instead , you can replace the spaghetti with gummy noodles and make a mash mash of all your favorite gummies and candies (Hello sugar rush!).

4. The Grinch

Everyone’s favorite green monster, the grinch is another classic Christmas movie. Whether you watch the older version or the newer animated film, the story of the Grinch is a heart-warming one and brings a smile to the viewer's face. We all know of the famous roast-beast and who ham and who jams. But arguably the most delicious of all is who pudding. The official recipe calls for a rice pudding, but if cake pudding sounds good to you (and it does to me) then there’s a Seuss approved cake pudding recipe. And if that’s all too much, some regular pudding will do just fine.

5. A Charlie Brown Christmas

This one is probably my favorite Christmas movie by far. It is definitely not as long or developed as our other movies, but there is something so special about watching the peanuts crew around the holidays. A Charlie Brown Christmas has established itself as an American staple and can easily be recognized by Charlie browns tiny thin Christmas tree. Nothing is more similar to these than pretzel sticks. A bit of an underwhelming snack but pretzels are such a versatile snack and can be made savory or even sweet. Dip them in your favorite dip or in some melted chocolate and you have a super easy movie snack!
